For our From the Devs feature, we find indie games with potential and let the developers tell you about their projects. Today we have Steve Ball of AlwaysGeeky on Vox.

TechZwn: What’s your game and what’s it about?

Ball: The game is Vox, it is a new voxel based action/adventure/rpg game that is heavily influence by player created content and allowing the player to create stuff in the world and game that they play.

TechZwn: What makes your game unique?

Ball: Vox is unique from all the other voxel games because of the player creation aspects and the ability to allow the player to make ANYTHING they want in the game. Every part of Vox will be customizable and allow for player creation. Player characters, items, weapons, monsters, NPCs, quests, scenery, the world, etc.

TechZwn: Where did the inspiration come from?

Ball: Inspiration comes from many games. I like all the other voxel based games at the moment, Minecraft, Infiniminer, CW, 3d Dot Hero, etc.. also I like the action and RPG elements from many classic games, like early final fantasy and Zelda games, also the questing systems in games like World of Warcraft and Skyrim.

TechZwn: Is there anything you saw in modern gaming that you’d like to change or build on with your game?

Ball: I think that many modern games don’t really allow a high level of player created content or customization in the game. For example most games will only allow you to change the colour of your characters hair, or the clothes that they are wearing. In Vox I have made it so that people can create 100% custom characters to play in the game. i.e. vampires, robots, human characters, characters from movies/cartoons, etc… basically allowing the player to make whatever they want and play as it in the game.

TechZwn: Is there anything else you’d like to say or talk about regarding your game (or gaming in general)?

Ball: There is currently a pre-alpha version of Vox available to play at Desura and IndieDB if anyone wants to try Vox and I would love to see any player created content that people make… there is already a community starting to develop around the player creations and items that are made in Vox and this will be getting better and better as more features are added to the game.
