Well, it seems speculation that Star Wars: The Old Republic going free-to-play is accurate… kind of. Players will be able to jump in on SWTOR and play for free up to level 15 with no time limit and go anywhere they please.

This is just short of World of Warcraft being F2P up to level 20, but they’re not calling it F2P. They’re just referring to this as a trial period. There is a catch though. The developers aren’t opening this up to the public. You have to have a friend who is a paying player in order to get in. Each player can invite up to 25 friends, and as an added incentive to get your buddies to pay up, players will get a Kurtob Alliance Speeder if their friends buy a recurring monthly subscription.

The website states, “Active players that have passed one billing cycle can invite up to twenty five (25) of their friends to take part in a Friends of Star Wars: The Old Republic trial. During this free trial period, invited friends can play levels 1-15 with no time limit, explore each of the four Origin Worlds, and experience the opening adventures for each class as they start along their epic journey.”
