There was a key concern among the developers at Sweden-based ThreeGates Studios that the trend in the gaming industry is removing the complexity and intricacies that used to make games great. While they know developers are doing this to reach broader markets, it comes at a cost. So they’ve set out to change this by identifying four key elements go good gaming, and built these into their upcoming game, Legends of Aethereus.

“We’ve seen many disappointed gamers as we watch beloved titles get watered down or console-adapted to the point where the gaming experience is no longer appealing to the original fans,” they state on the game’s Kickstarter page.

The four elements they identified are character variation and freedom, awesome combat, weapon and gear customization, and environment interaction. Thus, they’ve made a game with realistic physics-based combat, an in-depth attribute and skill system, the ability to craft your own gear, and plenty of traps and objects to mess with using the game’s physics engine.

“We believe that the core PC Gaming audience is really hungry for a game that can deliver a deep experience, interesting choices, and more control over how you look as an individual, as well as how you play the game,” they state.

Aside from the single-player campaign, the hack-and-slash adventure game will also have a co-op mode and online PvP. One of the developers states on the TGIForums, “Anyway, it is a game about going on expeditions with your buddies to an unexplored forest continent, killing monsters, crafting new gear and racing to obtain ancient artifacts before the *evil* venetan empire does so.”
