Faster Than Light sits in its own category of roguelikes—on a captains seat while it blasts interstellar mobs into oblivion. Well, it’s not really a roguelike, technically. The developers call it a “roguelike-like” that aims to “recreate the atmosphere of running a spaceship exploring the galaxy (like Firefly/Star Trek/BSG etc).”

The game is nearing its closed beta release, and is heading to Windows, Mac, and Linux. The developers won a highly successful Kickstarter campaign—bringing in 2,005% of their goal and closing at $200,542.

They’ve also won a few awards—Honorable Mention for the grand prize and for excellence in design at the 2012 Independent Games Festival. They were also a finalist at the 2011 Independent Games Festival.
