The Elder Scrolls Online MMO Announced
Now that I’m done jumping up and down like a giddy school girl, I feel prepared to properly relay news of great importance to you, dear reader. Dark times are upon us in the distant lands of Tamriel, a millennium before dragons will ravage the lands in Skyrim, as Daedric Prince Molag Bal is trying to drag all of Tamriel into the dark realm of his people.
Yes, Elder Scrolls Online will be a full massive-multiplayer online game set in the Elder Scrolls universe, and together our swords will bring justice to the distant realms. The game is scheduled for release in 2013 for PC and Mac.
The folks over at GameInformer seem to have exclusive coverage on the upcoming title, developed by Zenimax Online Studios. The company is part of ZeniMax Media, under which is Bethesda Softworks (makers of the Elder Scrolls series and Fallout 3).
“It will be extremely rewarding finally to unveil what we have been developing the last several years,” game director and MMO veteran Matt Firor told GameInformer. “The entire team is committed to creating the best MMO ever made – and one that is worthy of The Elder Scrolls franchise.”
They have the game featured in their June edition, which has the game’s emblem as the cover. it will detail the game’s “player-driven PvP conflict that pits the three player factions against each other in open-world warfare over the province of Cyrodiil and the Emperor’s throne itself,” the website states.
They state there will be a brief teaser up tomorrow, then the first screenshots in the afternoon. They’ll also be revealing the player factions.
It seems Zenimax Online Studios is filling its ranks with a rush of new staff members. Their jobs page has positions open for everything from figure artists to software engineers. Under the DevOps Engineer position, they’re asking for someone with “MMO gaming experience preferred, especially during product announcement and launch.” The same goes for the figure artist position, which says “Game industry and MMO experience a plus,” and “MMO or RPG experience a plus.”
Notably, they’re also hiring forum moderators for English, French, and German (possible languages for the game?).
