What started as mod has turned into a full-fledged title built with the CryEngine 3, and set in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. universe.

The team behind CryZone: Sector 23 recently announced the game will be a standalone release, and Kuandykov Denis (Pro100denver), founder and project manager, gave us a few details on what to expect.

According to Pro100denver, the game will not try to recreate S.T.A.L.K.E.R., since, as he notes it was already “just enough.”

He said the atmosphere, the universe, the history, people, actions, and everything else in the game will be completely new; and will build on this with a deep feeling of “alienation in the ‘new’ area.”

The game is currently available in its beta stage, and there are several images and videos of the project over at the teams page on ModDB. They give players a warning to “save often,” since, aside from some bugs still in the build, “the game is truly hardcore, the Zone does not forgive a starry-eyed walks through its territory.”

They add, “This project represents a high quality game in the genre of post-apocalypse, game set in the well-known universe of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.”
