A new trailer for the upcoming game Voxatron shows off some high-res, pixelated baddies and a level editor that lets users plop useful objects and platforms into the game to use.

The game, as the name suggests, uses voxels, which is basically 3-D vector—infinitely scalable, and smooth looking. There are some incredible graphics engines in the works using voxels, but Voxatron seems to bypass that for a more of an old school look.

Voxatron developers describe it as an “action/adventure game set in a completely destructible world made of voxels.” An alpha version will be out soon, and the game will be available on Mac, Windows, and Linux.

You can see more of the game in their last demo below, which gives a better picture of how the gameplay works—mass voxel destruction, with hordes of enemies that explode into tiny voxel enemies, which can then be blasted into voxel oblivion. Awesome.
