Notch officially announced dragons in Minecraft, and posted images of the early model to back it up. He stated on Twitter the dragon is “animated and flies around now!” then provided an album with several shots of the new mob roaming the skies.
The dragon keeps the traditional look of Minecraft, with a large blocky body and two big blocks for each wing, but as Notch stated earlier in the day “I am proud of it.” He noted “texturing this dragon is going to be.. interesting.. I’ll keep working on this way into this weekend, probably.”
Now, the appearance of dragons has been long suspected in the world of Minecraft, and the masters of the game’s lore who track Notch’s every word like interpreters around an oracle over at the Minecraft Wiki, say Notch “stated that achievements could lead into a large cumulative task ‘like killing a dragon.’”
They add that “Jeb seems to advise against having dragons as was said at the Dreamhack presentation, at the time 31:34. He also stated that if they are added, they will not be able to be mounts because it would put pressure on the server in SMP.”
Notch later said dragons would be added “eventually,” and that a type of dragon, known as the “Enderdragons” will roam in a new dimension he’s working on called “The Ender,” according to the wiki.
