A documentary comparing today’s biotechnology to cyborg mods found in “Deus Ex: Human Revolution” was commissioned by Eidos Montreal. The 12-minute film is narrated by filmmaker Rob Spence, known for the prosthetic eye connected to an electronic receiver that won him the nickname “Eyeborg.”

Throughout the film, Spence visits leaders in biotechnology and people around the world who have robotic prosthetics. It goes over what is found in Deus Ex, then explores similarities in today’s technology. Segments range from biomechanic arms to augmented reality helmets. After watching the film, it seems the technology found in Deus Ex may not be far off.

Are the fields of human prosthetics and humanoid autonomous robotics collaborating? Apart from the interfaces to the human nervous system, autonomous robot technology has a lot to offer in terms of design and techniques that could be applied to human prosthetics.
